Indian River County Post-Hurricane Milton Update

Closures

Parks and Recreation Staff are working diligently to reopen recreation facilities, parks, beaches and conservation areas. This list will be updated as damage assessments and restoration is completed and conditions allow.
  • Open mainland parks: All mainland parks maintained by Indian River County are reopened with the exception of Hosie Shumann Park, Oslo Boat Ramp, Vero Highlands Greenspace, and the Sebastian Canoe Launch.
  • Open beach parks: all beaches are red flag.
    All beach parks maintained by Indian River County are reopened with the exception of Tracking Station Beach Park. 
  • Conservation areas:  Hallstrom and Oslo Riverfront Conservation areas remain closed until further notice. All other areas are open; please be cautious when visiting as most areas have experienced flooding and fallen debris. 
  • IG Center: Returned to normal operations. 
  • North County Aquatic Center: Normal Operations
  • Gifford Aquatic Center: Normal Operations
  • Shooting Range: Normal Operations
  • Sandridge Golf Club: Normal Operations
  • Campgrounds: Normal Operations
  • Fairgrounds: Normal Operations
  • Parks Office: Normal Operations
City of Vero Beach Facilities: Bethel Creek House, Pocahontas Park, and Riverhouse are closed as of 10/15/24, all other parks are open


Debris Pickup

Indian River County (IRC) Solid Waste Disposal District (SWDD) is providing the following public service information related to Post-Hurricane Milton Disaster Debris Response.

  • Unincorporated IRC Disaster Debris: The County Disaster Debris Collection Contractor will start collecting vegetative storm debris on Monday, October 21, 2024. If private road and private subdivision Right-of-Entry forms have not already been submitted, complete the Right-of-Entry form here - https://indianrivercounty.rja.revize.com/forms/5793. All residents of Unincorporated IRC on public roads and those in private subdivisions are encouraged to follow the Debris Collection guideline shown below. Please take the time to place materials on the road right-a-way. 
  • Municipal Disaster Debris: Please contact your local town or city officials for their Disaster Debris Management plans within the municipal jurisdiction.
  • Indian River County Landfill: The IRC Landfill has resumed normal operations as of 7 am on Friday, October 11th. Tipping fees for all customers bringing in Construction and Demolition (C&D) Debris and Yard Waste Debris are being waived through end of day on Friday, October 18, 2024.
  • Customer Convenience Centers: Normal Operations  Convenience Center Hours of operation *130th Street access to the Roseland Customer Convenience Center may not be safe for small, low cars to drive through the water. The Public Works Department is working on pumping the water to allow safe crossing."
  • Garbage, Recycling and Yard Waste Collection in Unincorporated IRC: As of Friday, October 11th, WM has resumed garbage and yard waste collection services; however, the services will be delayed by one day through the end of the week for residential, commercial and roll off customers.
