Kids should never have to go hungry, but sometimes summer break means that kids don't have the free school breakfast and lunch that they normally get. Thankfully, there are some programs to make sure that kids in Indian River County can get free, nutritious meals this summer.
1. School District of Indian River County Summer Meals Program
Summer BreakSpots offer breakfasts, lunches, snacks, or dinners depending on the site. Kids and teens 18 and under can eat free at these locations all summer. There are multiple locations in Indian River County. Click here to find a location close to you using their interactive map. You can also Dial 2-1-1 or text "FOODFL" to 304-304 to find a site near you. I noticed that the SDIRC locations listed above are also included in the Summer BreakSpot map, but some of the information is conflicting. I recommend 1) following the schedule published by the School District, and 2) calling ahead at your desired location to verify meal times.
3. Treasure Coast Food Bank Summer Meals Program
Provides meals and snacks to children at partnering sites from June 3 - August 9, 2024. The summer schedule has not been published yet, but please check their Facebook page for the most up-to-date information.
