December is a busy month, filled to the brim with special events and activities. It can become stressful as we feel growing pressure to do everything and make this a magical time for our children. Choose your December must-dos and forget the rest! Here's Macaroni KID Vero Beach's holiday bucket list, along with a free printable to help you plan your family fun.

1. Look at Christmas lights

One of our family's traditions is to put on our Christmas pj's, pack up some cookies, and drive around to look at neighborhood light displays. There's an awesome house in McAnsh Park on Cortez Avenue, and the highlight of our drive is Grall Law Group's drive-through light display. We also loved walking around McKee's Festival of Lights last year.

2. Watch a holiday performance (or movie)

This will be our first year going to any holiday performances. My son is almost 5, so he's at the point where I think (fingers crossed!) he will be a good audience member. I'm excited for him to have his first theatre experience at Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and I can't wait to experience Ballet Vero Beach's Nutcracker for All. If you have young kids, watching a movie at home (or at Majestic 11's Winter KidFest) might be more your speed.

3. Make a holiday-themed craft

Making a craft is the perfect way to create memories together while also making decor or gifts for the family. Check out this article for local places hosting holiday craft-making times, or get materials to make something at home. It doesn't have to be fancy! One of the best crafts I ever did as a teacher was stringing tri-beads onto pipe cleaners to form wreaths and candy canes.

4. Shop for a meaningful gift

We are lucky to have so many amazing locally-owned businesses. A meaningful gift could come in the form of a gift certificate for a service, membership, or class. You could also find something special from a local artisan at an upcoming vendor market

6. Make delicious food

Holidays = time for all of the special treats and dishes! Pick your family's absolute favorites, and find ways to let your kids join in the process. We always make peanut butter blossoms, and unwrapping the chocolate Kisses is an easy job for my kids.

7. Take family photos

Whether you get professional photos taken, or just take some candid ones with your phone, be sure you capture some memories. And moms, make sure you are IN them, too!

8. Spend quality time with loved ones

This is a no-brainer, but sometimes we get so caught up in the busyness of the season that we forget to enjoy each other's company. Remember, you don't have to do everything on this list - slow down and enjoy the simple moments.
