Why I Love Living in Vero Beach Florida

By Alison Ellis, publisher of Macaroni KID Vero Beach February 12, 2024

One of the reasons I started publishing Macaroni KID Vero Beach is to show other families that there ARE things to do in Indian River County.

After having my firstborn, I started researching outings for us. I began discovering the "hidden" gems of Indian River County and coming to appreciate our little slice of paradise.

Around this time, I was seeing lots of Facebook complaints that there was nothing to do here and questions from local moms about where they could take their kids. This started me on my path to becoming your publisher!

You may be struggling with loving Vero Beach or feeling frustrated with our local options. I'm here to help! My ultimate goal for Macaroni KID Vero Beach is to help you have more fun locally with your family. It's that simple!

Here are five reasons I love living in Vero Beach.

1. Access to the Arts

We have Riverside Theatre (it's rare for a small area to have a professional theatre), Vero Beach Museum of Art (the only art museum on the east coast between Jacksonville and West Palm Beach), Vero Beach Theatre Guild, Ballet Vero Beach, Vero Beach Opera, art galleries, and more!

2. Florida Flora and Fauna

I sometimes take for granted the extensive animal and plant life we have here. We have a unique ecosystem in the Indian River Lagoon, which the Environmental Learning Center highlights. We have preserved Florida beauty at McKee Botanical Garden. Sebastian Inlet State Park is one of my favorite places to experience nature here. We can bike, walk, kayak, paddleboard, boat, fish, and more to get out in nature!

3. Beautiful Beaches

I love living 10 minutes from a clean beach with free parking. There's nothing like some salt therapy for my family, and it's hard to imagine living landlocked after experiencing life in a beach town.

4. Small Town Feel

I love that we can visit our favorite park and be almost guaranteed to run into friends. I love that I can drive across town in 15 minutes. I especially love that I've witnessed this community come together to take care of their own on multiple occasions.

5. Easy Drive to Big Attractions

We get the best of both worlds here! Small(ish) town living, but only an hour or two away from attractions like Disney World, Sea World, Brevard Zoo, and Kennedy Space Center! We are also within driving distance of cities like Tampa, St. Augustine, and Miami that make great weekend trips. You honestly never have to leave the state of Florida to take different vacations each year!

I know that Vero isn't perfect, and I hope that I can be a force for positive change in our community. However, I still love living here with my young family, and I hope that I can help other families enjoy living here, too.

P.S. - My "door" is always open! If you're looking for local camps, parks, activities, nonprofits, etc. send me a message on social media or email me at alisone@macaronikid.com.
